Creating a Good Home Workspace

Setting up a home workspace for your computer can make the difference between getting things done and being distracted by clutter and chaos. Anyone can benefit from a good place to work at home, whether you have a full home office or just an alcove for your computer.

Invest in a Good Chair

A solid computer chair can make a huge difference in how much you use your home computer station. Investing in a chair that provides good back support and is the right fit for your body is a wonderful investment in your comfort and productivity. A good chair should have firm back support, a padded seat, and be a size that matches your build. A good office chair can also blend in nicely with your home office décor and come in a variety of styles and colors to fit your taste.

Consider Your Best Lighting

A good desk lamp can help to set a relaxed tone. You need enough light to work, but not so much that you feel like you’re in a brightly lit office every time you check email. A good desk lamp or floor lamp can help to set the tone for a low-stress computer station. Choose a pretty shade or an elegant shaped lamp to add a touch of personal style.

Surround Yourself with Positive Items

Photos of your family, office organizers in a modern style, or beautiful glass paperweights—the choice is yours. Make your computer desk somewhere you want to spend time and you’ll find yourself getting more and more done. Be sure you have a good spot for a cup of tea or a glass of water, as well as a charging station for phones, iPods, cameras, and other gadgets. When you put some though into the layout, you’ll find that your work station is both beautiful and perfect for your work.

Toward a More Pleasant Holiday Meal

I don’t know about you, but I get very stressed when it comes to preparing a holiday meal for my family. There are 17 of us! I want everything to be perfect; I want the hot things hot, the cold things cold, and everything presented beautifully. My problem is twofold; I do everything myself and I so am exhausted by the time we all sit down to the meal all I can think of is sleep.

I have decided to be much smarter about the whole thing this year. I made a menu and asked family members to each bring an item. I love making homemade yeast rolls and I think they are pretty good, but I also make a huge mess that takes a lot of time to clean up when I make them. This year my sister will be bringing the rolls. It is surprisingly hard for me to delegate these items, but I have discovered that my family is excited to help. A few months ago I stumbled across a website, earnmydegree.com, and to make a long story short, I am now finishing up my bachelor’s degree online. All this help from my family will make it possible for me to keep up with my studies and have a great holiday with my family.

I borrowed a few crock pots from friends and will use them to keep casseroles warm. One of my friends freezes bowls of ice to nestle cool salads and entrees in. I think that is an exceptional idea. I am learning that the more people you involve the better your plans can become.

My husband had a great idea. We will set the table a few days before the meal and cover it with a clean sheet. Our own family meals will be eaten on a card table in the family room. Our kids think it’s a picnic!

Lessen the Stress of Moving by Hiring Movers

Moving from one home to another can be a stressful, yet exciting time. Whether you are moving into your first home, or your fifth apartment, moving is stressful. If you are like me, you’ll want to do whatever possible to reduce the stress and make moving fun. If you think about it, moving into a new home is a new chapter of your life, so let’s make the best of it.

First, decide if you are going to move all your belonging on your own or persuade your friends and family to help. Think about hiring movers, which I am all for if the budget allows. They do everything, from packing all your stuff, loading it onto their trucks, transporting your items to your new home, and then bringing all the boxes and furniture into the new home. This means when you arrive at your new place, each room will already have all its contents inside.

Movers will make sure your items are packed properly, thus ensuring safe delivery of your precious breakables. You will also save money by not having to buy boxes, as a moving company will take care of it all. Just tell them what needs to be moved, to where, and they will work with you.

Professional movers will also use their own trucks, so you don’t have to rent a large vehicle to transport all your belongings to their new destination. If scheduled right, your old home can be packed up and at the new home ready for unloading the second you sign your mortgage or lease agreement.

Finding a reputable moving company is easy. Search online for moving quotes. Call local moving companies and ask for their rates and packages. And, finally, word of mouth is the best reference, so ask your family, friends, and any co-workers that have recently used a moving company for recommendations.

In any job, you will likely need to track what you spend your time on. If you work from home, you will need to track your time in order to be more efficient. If you work for companies that are not in the same location as you, they may want you to track your time online so that they can have up-to-the-moment reports on what you are doing.

There are many excellent tools that can be found to track your time. Chrometa is a new tool that tracks not only what you are doing online, but also how much time you spend in programs and viewing documents. If you are looking for insurance information for a client, the program will tell you exactly how much time you spent on each site doing research. If you are working on a report, the program will track the time you spent writing the report, the time you spent researching, and the time you took to email it. You can use programs like accounting packages as well, and the program will tell you exactly how much time you spent in the program. Chrometa is an amazing piece of software. The best part is that it runs quietly in the background; you will hardly even know it’s there.

With the great tools that are available for time tracking online, you will never have to write down your time in a log again. You can keep clients informed, give better estimates because you will be able to analyze similar projects, and become more profitable in the future. Time tracking tools can be used to everyone’s advantage, whether you’ve managing your own time or that of employees, and they are straightforward and easy to use.

Protecting Your Home Technology

Your home is not just a structure likely made of metal and cement, but it is actually a work of new age technology. Regardless of when you home was built, just think about how much technology went into the construction. From the beginning of home construction, builders used much technical equipment available to them, at that time, to build you the structure you now live in. Often we don’t take the time to sit back and think about what our house would have turned out as, if they did not use current technology available to them.

But your house is not the only thing that is built with modern technology. Consider also the items inside your home. You spend your hard earned money to purchase and update all your electronics in the house so it is only natural to protect them. Home insurance is extremely important when it comes to protecting your investment. A proper home insurance policy will protect your structure and also the items in it. However if you are not completely up to date on your home insurance requirements, you will end up getting something that does not cover all your requirements.

When you are in the market for a house, you should also do your research on the various types of insurance available to you. From acts of God to flood insurance, it is important to pinpoint your requirements. A large amount of your income and savings go into purchasing your house so do not neglect anything that might come in handy in the future. The best insurance for you would be something that protects your property and at the same time is within your budget. It is extremely important to do your research and check with agents who are knowledgeable. Only then will you find the optimum protection that you need for your home.
