How to Configure Your New Gadget

Ah, welcome to the wonderful world of new electronics. It’s exciting to get something new to play with. The feeling is that it will revolutionize your entire life. Well, before you change your life, you are going to need to set up your new gadget accordingly. Here are some tips.

Email First

The best part of most tablets, smartphones, or anything else with the internet is the email function. It’s also the thing that you will use most, so make sure you set it up first. Once email is working everything else will be a breeze.

Know Your Other Devices

Many times a new gadget is compatible with other devices, but you need to see what those devices are to use them correctly. Make sure you know the operating system of your computer and the password for the wi-fi in your house. This will allow you to set everything up in a way that is most similar to how you are using things today. If you need additional cables or accessories you can try using your prepaid card to stock up on what you need.

Get Contacts

Make sure your contacts are right and are set up correctly. Streamlining your life with a new gadget means knowing who you have in your address book and what their information is. Information is key, so set it up to have the most comprehensive info you can.

Your new gadget could change your life, so start by setting it up the right way. If you can do that everything else is easy breezy.

Home Technology Makes Life Easy

Home Technology sounds like misnomer, doesn’t it? Home equals cleaning your room and doing the dishes; technology means smart cars, $100k computers and Disney World. You certainly do not have a smart car.

Yet, even the humblest homes, in the US, are technological wonders.

Think about it.

You come home and unlock your door; you probably have a doorbell and a porch light, right? You may even have a smart lock and/or surveillance cameras. You turn on your living room lights and then use the bathroom.

After that, you rummage through the refrigerator and find a packet of frozen food; you throw the pack into the microwave and cook it for 2 minutes. You need something extra, so you pull out the blender and make yourself an energy drink with your favorite protein mix.

You pull your meal from the microwave and then wander over to the couch, pick up the remote and turn on the TV. You roam through the Direct TV menu and then decide to pay for a showing of Avatar. You also decide to record the movie so you can watch it later, as well.

You are really glad you made that decision because just when you do, the house phone rings. You decide to ignore it because your voice mail will pick up a message and you can listen to it later. Unfortunately, whoever it is wants your attention right now, because your cell phone starts ringing. You turn down the sound with the remote and answer your cell. It’s your sister who asks you to please bring your coffee machine to the family gathering tomorrow. You agree and then settle back to watch the movie.

When the movie finishes, you throw your dishes in the dishwasher and head to your computer, turn iTunes on random and do some Internet searching for better prices for tires for your car. After a nice hot shower, it’s back to the computer, to surfing to find the best directtv deals. Later, you set your alarm and settle down for a good night’s rest.

You have just experienced an evening of convenient home technology.

How Technology Is Changing The World?

As we all know, technology is the biggest factor that can affect or change our life. Today we see technology is being used everywhere to ensure proper productivity. The role of technology in today’s generation or in fact out life is really huge and it has the potential to change everything in a matter of few minutes. You can see latest technologies evolving each day in order to take the business and other professions to the next level.

Technology has a bigger hand in protecting our nation too. Latest technologies are being used these days in the military to ensure proper security measures are taken. The latest technologies such as walky talky, cell phones and various other devices are being extensively used in the international borders to ensure proper safety and prevent the terrorists from crossing over the border.

Gone are the days when people used to use the old devices and this was resulting in lot of delay in doing the things. However of late we see technology is being used to ensure faster work and better productivity.

Technology has really changed our lives. Over the past few decades our life style has changed tremendously thanks to the latest technologies. Gone are those days when television was used only for viewing news at the end of the day. However today we don’t really find time to see the number of programs that are aired in the television. With hundreds of channels available the choice is getting difficult.

Slowly but surely technology is proving to be a biggest winner. It has changed our so much that we hardly get time to see the journey traveled so far. We are getting increasingly dependent on the technology so much that we hardly get time to see the advantages and disadvantages involved in it.

Some Music Ringtone History and a Glance at the Industry Today

Ringtones are not new.  In fact, they have been around since 1975 when manufacturers started making accessories for phones and these third-party ringers would produce electronic tones and melodies.  People could actually take a chip from musical greeting cards and make their favorite holiday songs a ringtone for their phone.  Things have really advanced since then.  Both phones and ringtone are much more complicated and of a higher quality.  When we think of ringtones these days, we really are talking about downloadable ones for the most part.  The first mobile ring tones that were downloaded were created in Finland.  In 1998, a company created the first service to deliver monophonic tones to movile devices.

That created what is now a thriving industry.  There are a multitude of websites which allow users to download free music ringtones as well as paying for them.  It used to be that the quality of the free downloads was not that great.  However, these days that is changing quite a bit.  In fact there are many websites where you can not only download music ringtones for free but you can also get free video downloads, free wallpaper and other goodies for your mobile device.   These days you do not have to be subjected to one-note monophonic noise but instead you can get Truetone ones which are music quality files like AAC or mp3 files.  You can, in fact, now even find what are called sing tones.  These are ring tones that are created karaoke style with you singing the words while the music plays.  You record it and you have a ringtone.

Whether you decide to create your own ringtone with software you find online or create your own karaoke sing tone, there are a multitude of musical styles available.  The music industry has taken notice of this booming market so there will surely be even more options available as we move forward.

Computer Forensics – A Growing Specialty

Computer forensics is a relatively new specialty that has developed in tandem with the growing complexity of computers and the criminals who misuse the computers or who use them for nefarious purposes. Anybody who owns a computer is potentially at risk as are businesses that rely heavily on computers.

Computer forensics follow the traditional steps of scientific investigation and the work is systematic, documented and is acceptable in courts of law. The first step in the process is to identify the sources of computer or digital evidence. The second step is to ensure that the evidence is not lost, changed or corrupted. The third step is to analyze the evidence and then finally to present the findings and evidence.

IT forensics are responsible for both managing the computer system while protecting potentially sensitive evidence. They are responsible for an individual computer or an entire network of computers. A computer forensic specialist will look for both hidden and obvious data and can find data that has been password protected or encrypted. They can also retrieve files that have been deleted.

Most commonly a forensic specialist will be retrieving data that has been deleted from computers and cell phones. Much evidence of crimes has been supported by the retrieval of text messages and phone calls made from cell phones or social networking sites and email.

The criminal who goes to great lengths to destroy his computer or cell phone can no longer be sure that the data on it won’t be recovered. Fire, water and physical damage to the computer can all be overcome and data can be retrieved.

It is not only police and lawyers who rely on computer forensics. The insurance industry, banking and even your own workplace can use IT forensics to gather information and potential evidence. The only way to ensure that data won’t be retrieved from a cell phone or computer is to not put it there in the first place.

Sextortion

LONDON - MAY 31: Party revellers enjoy the atm...

When text messaging and social media first became popular the immediacy of the communication was lauded. It was a way to break down walls and bring people together. Yet, as with any medium there has been a plenty of unforeseen negatives. For every happy match.com commercial there seems to be a countering case of sexual exploitation through the means of texting or social media.

Teenager Anthony Stancl received a 15-year prison sentence for black mailing several of his peers into sexual relationships. Between spring of 2007 and fall of 2008, Stancl posed as a teenage girl named “Kayla” on Facebook. While posing as “Kayla”, Stancl requested and received explicit picture of at least seven New Berlin, Wisconsin area teenage boys.

Stancl then used the pictures to force the boys into sex acts. It was not the first time that Stancl has been in trouble with the law. As a 13-year-old, he was convicted of having in appropriate contact with a 3-year-old.

In Stancl’s case the use of social media appeals to be a case of a sexual predator using new means to attack victims. But is access to the Internet creating a new generation of sexual predators that would not have ever thought off exploiting someone sexually without using a computer or a cell phone as a filter?

There has been a rise in the crime that is now being referred to as “sextortion” in some court documents. The case involving Stancl is certainly an example, but generally the crime has been limited to blackmailing victims into sending explicit photos or video so that other damaging photos are not exposed to the family or friends of a victim.

This crime would not be possible in almost all of the cases without the access to technology. Many of the victims did not even know their blackmailer. The initial photos were simply distributed and tagged on a web site. The person committing the crime then used the internet to contact their victim usually through a social networking site such as Facebook or Myspace. The victims were strangers, who were only known online.
